There are many metaphors that are said in this essay, and don't actually have the direct meaning. For example, "rollercoaster ups and downs," means the ups and downs in life. There are many different challenges you go through in life. There is also good times, which is your ups. That is why life is like a rollercoaster. And, it's fast, so you need to enjoy the ride. "Helium Hopes breaking skyward without me," means that his hopes are too high. His hopes are being compared to a balloon at a carnival. It floats and goes too high, just life his goals. He hopes for too high and difficult things in life. These two metaphors portray great comparisons to life.
